I Learned Something New Today!
Outlining What You Colored
Hi! This is Jenny Lee again here to talk to you about coloring, which I love as you can see if you read my previous post.
So, you might be wondering what new thing I learned today. Please sit back and let me explain and show it to you.
Sometimes I outline a picture or parts of a picture in black to make things “pop.” I use a black Sharpie Pen (1.0 thickness) to do so. Oftentimes, when I’m outlining a piece, the Sharpie will slip a lot because of the hard surface of the lapdesk I use to color on. (Yes, I use a lapdesk rather than sitting at a table so I can listen to, but not really watch, TV.) Anyway, I thought that if I put a couple of pieces of paper under the piece I was outlining, my Sharpie would benefit from a softer surface that it could sink a little bit into as well as provide a little friction. Well, it worked! This technique allowed the Sharpie to sink into that paper behind it which kept the Sharpie from slipping and sliding all over the piece I was working on. The friction slowed to Sharpie down which also prevented it from slipping. Here is an example of one of the pieces I used this technique in. Notice how the tree stands out from the background because it is outlined in black.
